This light and strong body shell enables a more dynamic driving experience


One of the core parts of our strategy for making lighter cars is reducing the weight of the body shell. Lighter cars are better for the environment and can give a more fun and agile driving performance. With this SKYACTIV-BODY the Mazda CX-5 achieves one of the lowest kerb weights in its segment – a key factor in its unusually responsive driving experience. And importantly there’s no compromise in safety because this SKYACTIV-BODY is engineered using new technology and materials including reinforced steel.

The SKYACTIV-D 2.2 litre diesel engine with two-stage turbocharger delivering up to 175ps.

The SKYACTIV-G 2.0 litre petrol engine with direct injection delivering up to 165ps.

The SKYACTIV-D diesel engine with two-stage turbocharger eliminates the response lag that’s typical of turbo engines. And our SKYACTIV-G petrol engine with direct injection delivers the world’s highest compression ratio of 14:1 (a key performance measure for combustion engines).
Alongside our SKYACTIV-DRIVE and SKYACTIV-MT transmissions, our SKYACTIV engines provide a powerful and efficient driving experience. These petrol and diesel engines are both available with automatic and manual transmission, the former providing a refined, smooth shift and the latter a sports-shift feel.
