Irish car buyers this year are looking to purchase more fuel efficient vehicles with lower running costs. Just under half of all cars sold so far in this year slot into C02 Band B.

While the trend is towards purchasing a smaller car, it does not mean you have to compromise on practicality and driving performance.

One of the stars of this segment has been the stylish Mazda2. Mazda, with its renowned reputation for building highly-quality, reliable cars, with stunning driving performance, have been taking sales from some of the larger players in the segment.

Mazda has announced the launch of the Mazda2 Sensu. Sensu, a Japanese term that is used to describe the folding fan and its ability to create a breeze with practicality, beauty and style.

The Mazda2 Sensu model offers prospective customers over €3000 of extra equipment for only €1000 above the entry level Comfort model. Specification upgrades includes: Air conditioning, 15" alloy wheels, steering wheel controls, extra roof and side airbags, and electric folding heated door mirrors and many more features.

The combination of enhanced equipment, Mazda's renowned reliability and build quality and low running costs makes the Mazda2 hard to overlook for those in the market for a small car.

In every respect, the Mazda2 is a unique and ground-breaking vehicle. Not only is it sporty looking, it also sets a new benchmark for lightweight construction, being at least 100kg lighter than its predecessor. This is a reflection of a new focus at Mazda on offering cars that have less impact on the environment.

The Mazda2 driving performance delivers on the promise made from its sporty exterior design. Delivering 15% more power (86hp) over the Comfort version, open road performance is superb. The driver feels connected with this nimble car, while the chassis settings ensure the car feels stable yet fun through the corners.

With a lightweight yet rigid body construction, this generation Mazda2 uses less fuel and produces far fewer CO2 emissions than its predecessor. The Mazda2 Sensu delivers 5.1L/100kms (54MPG) while yearly road tax costs €225 thanks to the low C02 output of 119g.

The Mazda2 Sensu has a roomy interior, despite the relatively compact size of the car. Interior features include leather steering wheel and gear lever, split folding seats and handy storage compartments include a unique magazine rack in the glove compartment, front door pockets with space for a half-litre bottle and an A4 atlas, and three compartments in the dashboard for smaller items.

On the inside, Mazda's sporty driving pedigree is invoked with a dark keynote colour contrasts nicely with white instruments, silver accents, a three-spoke steering wheel similar to the iconic Mazda MX-5 roadster.

The Mazda2 delivers some of the B-segment's best crash safety achieving the highest possible ranking of five stars on Euro-NCAP testing. Its superior passive safety package includes six airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist.
