The new Mazda6. Rebuilt to perform
At Mazda we believe in an engineering philosophy of 'gram strategy'. It's all about making things lighter; to save energy and make them go faster, for longer.
The new Mazda6 has lighter alloy wheels and a more rigid body shell, using high tensile steel. This means better fuel economy and a more responsive drive, all helped by the car's superior aerodynamic performance.
We've made the suspension feel smoother, without compromising on agility, by absorbing the vertical vibration energies more efficiently. The new Mazda6 is now even more comfortable and serenely quiet on long distance journeys, with dramatically reduced cabin vibrations on coarse road surfaces.
An aerodynamic overhaul now channels the air around the car more efficiently, giving the Mazda6 exceptional straight-line stability. Obviously, Mazda6 performance is about more than straight-line speed; the braking system gives it one of the shortest stopping distances from 100km/h in its class.
Steering and handling
With its precise power steering, the new Mazda6 flows seamlessly through corner after corner with superb ride quality, exceptional grip and precise responses to steering, braking and acceleration.
This stability is possible thanks to a sports car-inspired suspension system, with double-wishbones at the front and a multi-link system in the rear, plus an enhanced steering set up.
Engines
The new Mazda6 comes in a choice of 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol engines and a 2.2 diesel engine with two power outputs.
The MZR-CD 2.2 litre diesel engine is the pinnacle of Mazda's new generation efficient diesel engines and is available in two different power outputs 129ps and 180ps.
The 129ps engine produces outstanding smoothness and has a combined fuel economy of just 5.2l/100km. Furthermore with C02 emissions of just 138g/km or 139g/km (estate) all three body styles now fall in Band B of the annual road tax. The 129ps engine is eligible for the Government Scrappage incentive. Terms and conditions apply.
The 180ps engine is not only powerful but it is also very economical and it has a combined fuel economy of just 5.4l/100km for the Hatchback. Competitive C02 emissions of just 142g/km mean that the 180ps engine falls in Band C of the annual road tax.
A reduced turbocharger size gives the driver better engine response and better performance, whilst both diesel engine options achieve Euro 5 compliant CO2 emission levels.
The MZR 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine has a Variable Induction System (VIS), which enables it to deliver high torque at all speeds. Superior environmental performance comes from the electronically controlled throttle, which promotes fuel economy, along with a single silencer, which limits exhaust emissions while promoting power across a wide rev range.
New to the Mazda6 petrol line-up, the 2.0 DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) technology injects atomised fuel directly into the cylinder, allowing a higher than usual compression ratio.
This gives you a smooth, flexible, efficient delivery of power and torque. It also means lower CO2 emissions of up to 5%, and better fuel economy than the previous model.
The exhaust catalyst has been repositioned immediately downstream of the exhaust manifold. This means the catalyst is activated quicker and emissions after cold starts are reduced. This engine comes with a five speed activematic transmission.
